Built in 1879 as a family home for George MacKay, a Mayor of Kendal and owner of the nearby Aynam Mills. Today, this spacious yet cosy house provides guests a comfortable base from which to explore Kendal on foot and easy access to everything the beautiful Lake District and Cumbrian peninsulas have to offer.

It is set right in the centre of Kendal, just over the footbridge, but you'd never know when you're in it. It is quite, peaceful and sitting in the garden is lovely. There are quite a few stairs, which wasn't a problem for us but worth noting. The kitchen is full of utensils but if cooking bring your own oil, cling film etc. There were some herbs in the cupboard and Jennna kindly left us some milk. The house was absolutely spotless, rooms were massive and the beds and sofas were comfy. The hosts were really responsive and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay!”

Entering the house made quite an impression with the large Victorian tiled hallway and stairs. The decoration and feel of the house was very in keeping with the age of the property. The bathrooms were modern, new and sparkling, great showers. The kitchen was of an older style, but well equipped and a welcome pack and essentials kindly provided, so that you can have a lovely cuppa after your journey, and don't arrive to no supplies, which was very appreciated. The two main bedrooms were very generous in size and very comfortable. The twin bedroom would be better for children, but perfectly adequate. The dining and living room were a great size again, and comfortable but could maybe do with an additional sofa or extra chairs to cater for the 8 guests that the house can accommodate. All in all, we loved it and had a lovely stay and would return.”
